Hi,
I am developing a WIFI/BLE board for use in explosive atmospheres (EU ATEX directive). One way of achieving the necessary protection is by a conformal coating encapsulation (IEC 60079-18 standard). I am having trouble with finding resources on effects of such coatings on antenna performance.

Hi Marco,

Thanks for your question. There are many different types of conformal coatings/potting compounds and the RF effect varies between them, as well as being dependent on frequency. We have done some successful experimentation on this and can design custom experiments with potting compounds that you specify.
