Can a PCB be shorter than an antenna's evaluation board (EVB)?

Reducing the size of an antenna's ground plane to below the recommended size may come with a drop in performance.

If the device operates on a low frequency with a small PCB, then performance will likely be degraded. At higher frequencies, the drop-off in performance is not quite as dramatic.
