Request recommendation for the placement of Amoris-SRF2W021 2.4-2.5GHz/ 4.9-5.9GHz flexible antennas


We intend to use the Amoris-SRF2W021 2.4-2.5GHz/ 4.9-5.9GHz flexible antennas within our product.
Our product is a stand alone media server with integrated concurrent dual band (2.4Ghz & 5GHz)  2x2 MU-MIMO  OFDMA Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) Access Point.

The main product will be a metal enclosure with multiple Single Board Computers (SBCs).  We intend to have the antennas placed/ mounted outside (on top) with a plastic cover ("radome") the cables will be passed thru a small aperture to the inside of the metal enclosure to connect to the Wi-Fi 6 AP SBC..

The product will be mounted on the ceiling of an airplane cabin, with the top "radome"  with the antennas facing down..  We expect to cover ~ 50ft/ ~15m on either side of our product providing video content to ~ 50+ clients.

BTW:  The reason for the placing the antennas under an external "radome" is based on our assumption that the Wi-Fi signals will be significantly attenuated, essentially non-existent, if kept within the metal enclosure.

Please comment, advise regarding the placemen of the antennas for optimum performance.

Hi Mahmud,

The Amoris antenna will work very well for your project. I would recommend that you make room in your radome to allow for the antennas to be placed 3.5mm above the metal surface of the case that houses your SBCs. Using the antennas for 2x2 MU-MIMO I would recommend two orientations that are orthogonal to each other meaning turned 90 degrees so that one coax goes straight into your metal case and the other coax runs parallel to the box for about 5mm before turning 90 degree to go into the metal box. The short edge of this antenna should be 3.5mm away from the metal box and the coax should be routed away from the other antenna (not towards the other antenna where it could possibly overlap the other antenna).
I would recommend upgrading the coax cable to a double shielded cable to reduce the about of noise that could possibly be radiating inside of the metal box that could be picked up by the coax as it traverses to the board connector for the WiFi radio.
