What is the best antenna topology for wearables & body-worn devices?

For a body-worn device, effective wireless performance can only be achieved when signals radiate away from the wearer/user. This makes the PIFA (planar inverted-F antenna) topology beneficial for wearables; the human body in close proximity is less likely to detune the antenna.
