Suggested antenna for a vertical PCB?
Hello,
I'm looking at the M20050-1 for a new design. The PCB board is mounted perpendicular to the ground. I know this is not an ideal positioning for many "complete" GPS modules that have ceramic patch antennas mounted on top of them because the flat part of the disk is not facing the sky, but across the ground. Does the M20050-1 also need to be mounted on a horizontal PCB? My guess is it does, but I would love to be wrong.
If I cannot use the M200500-1 in this manner, so you have any other suggestions?

Thanks,
Andy Moroney

Hi Andy, The antenna in the M20050 is omni-directional, so it doesn't matter what orientation the PCB is in.  However the module should be in the centre of the long edge, and requires the edge to be at least 60mm long.  If you don't have much space, you can use the Agosti GNSS antenna that is mounted in the corner, and needs a smaller ground plane.   The M20072 is a newer GNSS module and has much lower power consumption than the M20050.  The M20071 works with the Agosti antenna.
